This photo is one of several black-and-white self-portrait snapshots taken of me, by me, in my initial days of writing, by way of prelude to a more formal photo session suggested by my publisher (at the time) and his publicist, as a supposed excellent way — writer shows a bit of skin — to sell more of my books. However, I was so unimpressed with the snapshots that I buried their negatives in the bottom of a trunk and nixed the more formal and professional photo shoot that was scheduled to follow. Only recently, time having a good way of changing one’s perspective, have I begun to look a tad more favorably upon the group of pictures in general, and upon this one picture in specific.
